A little bit of Thorthought (sorry)

Here at Orbital Velocity we're busy making comics inbetween doing some other form of 'jobs' to make money. You see, the thing about the comic industry is it's a strange beast. It's not like the TV or film industry where you can submit a spec script and get an agent and that's your way in, to get noticed in the comic industry you have to be making comics. I can tell you from my own personal viewpoint, and probably also vouch for Gary, I don't do this to make money, far from it, I simply do it because I love telling stories, and I love the flexibility the comic book format offers up, it's like the dirty lovechild of a one night stand between prose and film.

Gary and I have been working together putting together one comic after another for the last five years or so, give or take a month or two, and we've always stuck with it, but the real problem we had was, it wasn't the fact we couldn't draw or couldn't write, I think we were both a little naive about how tough the comic industry really is. Everyone I know in comics has to work, and hard. Whether you're Bryan Hitch or just a kid starting behind the board, or if you're Grant Morrison or some pimple-faced Moore-o-phile with dreams of writing the next masterpiece, you simply have to put the hours in, or it shows. You can't cover up laziness or mistakes in comics.

It also didn't help that we simply didn't know what we were going to do once these comics were finished. When we attended Kapow! in 2011, it was a real eye-opener to the harshness of the business, and how you need a battering ram to get into the industry, but once you've found your way in, close the door after you, no two ways in are the same. So we decided to set up Orbital Velocity, with the conviction that this would be a publisher we could nurture and grow, starting out with our own books and expanding thereafter.

We're going to take every opportunity there is to get one of our books in your hands to read, and that's all we want to do, make enjoyable comics, and they are comics, call them graphic novels or whatever, they're comics. And hopefully, when this whole little shindig bears the fruits we want, we'll be able to give the leg-ups people who love comics and want in the industry deserve.

Take it easy,

Glen

Announcing... Legend

Whilst the search is now back on for another artist for Avalon, a new project is in the works covering the early years of Ascension City, before it became the sprawling metropolis it is today, and its very first superhero - Legend. With an artist already on board and concept art coming in thick and fast, it's only a matter of time before Legend is ready to join the OVC pantheon alongside Titan.

Stay tuned,

Glen
